Bronchitis is inflammation of the lining of the bronchi. The acute form is often linked to a viral infection and resolves; the chronic form requires ongoing monitoring.

- Discoloured or blood-streaked phlegm
- Recurrent flare-ups and breathlessness
Once the cause is established, treatment focuses on easing the cough, reducing inflammation and — in chronic cases — removing triggers, smoke above all.
